The Udai Sagar Lake is counted among the top five lakes of Udaipur. This bewitching beauty is located around 13 kilometres away to the east of the main Udaipur city. About Udai Sagar Lake: This lake was made by Maharaja Udai Singh and hence it was named after him as Udai Sagar Lake. The actual idea of the king was to make a system so that his kingdom receives adequate water supply. For which he constructed a dam on the river Berach in the year 1559. As a result the Udai Sagar lake was also built in the year 1559 an got completed in the year 1565. This enormous lake covers a wide area, in which it spreads 4 kilometres length wise and is 2.5 kilometres wide with a depth of 9 metres. While the dam which is built on the river holds upto 23.4 mili cubic meter of water . During the rainy season the dam prevents the arena from flooding.
There is a zinc smelter located close to Debari region which uses the water from this lake. Visit Udai Sagar Lake to get an ethereal experience of the serenity of this magnificent lake. Get to know some of the major historical events which took place and started from here. It was here where Kunwar Man Singh invited Maharana Pratap in the year 1573 to talk about surrendering to the Mughal emperor Akbar. Pratap Singh refused to surrender and left by insulting Man Singh. This outrageous behaviour became the reason for the great battle of Haldighati 1576.
