Udaipur being a Venice of India is dotted with many Lakes. Among them many are man made lakes. The Fateh Sagar Lake of Udaipur is the second artificial or rather say man-made lake beauty of Udaipur. This lake is situated just beside the Pearl hill or the ' Moti magri' hill away to the north of lake Pichola of Udaipur. This artificial lake is surrounded by Aravalli hill range and the moti magri road gives breath taking veiw of the lake.
About Fateh Sagar Lake : This picturesque lake was made by Maharaja Jai Singh in the year of 1678. Later Maharaja Fateh Singh constructed further additions to the lake and made it even more appealing. Which made the lake to be called as Fateh Sagar Lake. The lake is spread across the area of 2.4 kms in length and is 1.6 kms wide. The depth of this enormous lake is 11.5 metres. The lake covers the area of around 1 sq km during heavy downpours.
The enticing beauty of the lake draws a lot of tourists to visit Fateh Sagar Lake. The infrastructure of the lake is wisely engineered and well placed with the inlets of water channels. There is an overflow channel which was specially designed for heavy rainfalls. The main attraction of the lake are the three islands in the lake which can be reached by the tourists through a boat.
One of the island had been converted into a great park which houses a restaurant and a little zoo for kids and children. Another island is used as a public park by the government where you can find fountains with awesome jet water supplies. The last island has been turned into a solar observatory of Udaipur which is also a largest observatory in Asia to watch solar activities. The lake is among the main tourist spot of Udaipur Fateh Sagar Lake.
