The massive Taragarh Fort was constructed by the great Mughal emperor Akbar in 1354 A.D. It is situated in the city Ajmer of the indian state of Rajasthan. In addition to other forts in Ajmer Rajasthan the Taragarh Fort is also a peerless specimen of the Rajasthani culture and traditions. The fort stands high and strong on a hilltop. The Taragarh Fort India was used by Akbar as a station of his military enterprises. In the later years it was used as a psychiatric hospital during British period. Taragarh fort is a prodigy of Ajmer , it stands as an exquisite piece of excellent artistry and engineering of the time when kings and emperors ruled India. The Taragarh Fort or the Star Fort has six massive and staunch gates. The three of them were named as Gagudi ki Phatak, Lakshmi Pol and Phuta Darwaza . Although these gates were unconquerable at the time of the king's reign but now most of the parts of the gates are in ruins now. There used to be tunnels of water running transversally inside the hill but now government has closed it.
It is among the main tourist spot of Ajmer Taragarh Fort. Another feature of the fort is Bhim Burj, which was a large battlement and upon that there is a large cannon stationed which was known as 'Garbh Gunjam' and also named as 'Thunder from the Womb'. There is also a tomb of Miran Saheb inside the fort. Miran Saheb was the governor of the fort. This brave man gave away his life while protecting and defending the fort. This massive and splendid fort is adorning Ajmer and stands on the hilltop as if it is still watching over the city.
